Acquisition of ALPINE Bau GmbH, Hergiswil

In July 2013 Rencons acquired ALPINE Bau GmbH, Hergiswil (Switzerland), a daughter company of the ALPINE Group founded in 1965 in Austria and active in more than 30 countries. The former Swiss branch of the ALPINE Group will change its name to Rencons Hergiswil and will operate within the Infrastructure Division of the Rencons Group.

ALPINE Hergiswil is currently part of the following joint ventures: TTG (Transtec Gotthard) with its sub-joint venture AFTTG (ARGE Fahrbahn Transtec Gotthard), as well as the TAT Consortium (Tunnel Alp Transit-Ticino). Herewith, the company, with a total of 128 employees, is involved in the construction of the world’s longest railway tunnel – the Gotthard Base Tunnel in the Swiss Alps.

The Gotthard Base Tunnel is a railway tunnel that consists of two 57-kilometre-long single-track tubes. The total length of the tunnel system, including all cross-passages, access tunnels and shafts, is over 152 km. The Gotthard Base Tunnel will increase total transport capacity across the Alps, reduce the impact on the environment and decrease travel time for passenger trains connecting Zürich with Milan and Lugano.

The TAT joint venture is performing a major part of the tunneling project. The TTG and AFTTG joint ventures ensure the signaling system for the track lanes, as well as electrification and telecommunication for the whole tunneling project. The project is being implemented in partnership with leading international construction companies.

With its solid engineering staff, know-how in tunneling and practical experience in such a top reference project as the Gotthard Base Tunnel, ALPINE Hergiswil will significantly strengthen the Infrastructure Division of Rencons and the Group as a whole. It will open up new project opportunities in our home markets as well as in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and will make Rencons a key player in the tunnel construction and infrastructure segment.
